On the 11-13 of June 2024 the European Environment Agency (EEA) organised the series of events within the stakeholders week celebrating thirty years of the EEA and the European Environment Information and Observation Network EIONET. The meetings in Copenhagen were attended respectively by Ms Anna Katarzyna Wiech, Head of the Department of Environmental Monitoring in the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (CIEP), the EEA Management Board Member Alternate, and Ms Małgorzata Bednarek, the EEA/EIONET National Focal Point, working in the same department.

The top event was the joint seminar
„Implement, Integrate, Innovate, Invigorate – EEA-Eionet by 2030” involving EEA representatives, EEA Management Board, EEA/EIONET National Focal Points, EEA European Topic Centres as well as the EEA Scientific Committee. The participants were reflecting on the EEA and EIONET roles as well as on the environmental knowledge development vision in light of the strategic objectives of the EEA-EIONET Strategy 2021-2030 as well as various economic and social development scenarios. Moreover, standard EEA/EIONET National Focal Points and EEA Management Board meetings were held separately. The topics discussed included inter alia: EEA and EIONET governance and modernisation issues, new information and communication tools, work on the report on the state and outlook of the environment in Europe SOER 2025. Polish delegation had also working meetings with the EEA Executive Director as well as selected EEA employees.

The European Environment Agency is the Agency of the European Union. The EEA aims to support sustainable development and to help achieve significant and measurable improvement in Europe’s environment, by providing the decidents and the public with up-to-date, relevant and reliable information. The European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET) is a partnership network of the European Environment Agency and its member and cooperating countries, gathering institutions and experts from 38 countries. At the national level the EIONET consists of the National Focal Point – in Poland in the CIEP since the beginning – and thematic structures. The EEA and EIONET were established in accordance with the Council Regulation (EEC) No 1210/90 of 7 May 1990 on the establishment of the EEA and EIONET, amended later. The EEA started operating in 1994 with a headquarter in Copenhagen.
